Albion Christian College: Thoughts, History, Announcements

Thursday, June 28, 2007

Please continue praying for us as we plan and make this college a reality. Pray: for wisdom in seeking accreditation (which accrediting agency), for energy to continue working as we all have jobs apart from the college, for individual financial sustenance, for donors to come alongside the school. Please pray that we will have staff come alongside and catch the vision of the college in this crucial stage and pray that God will bring in students.

2nd Wind

Last night was a profitable night here at Albion Christian College. I made up some of the forms for application to the college, Weston wrote a substantial part of the bylaws and mom got permission from the board to have a tax attorney do our 501 (C) (3) applicatio.

Please continue praying with and for us: pray that God would call people to partner with us as donors, as teachers, as students, and as staff; pray that God would continue guiding and walking with us.

A never ending flow of paper

The paperwork continues to stack up here at ACC as we do our own business cards, prepare applications, etc. Mom spent this morning reading a letter from James Frasier, a pioneer missionary in China, to dad and I. He had some interesting things to say about following God's will. He talked about how knowing God allows the Christian to go forward with absolute confidence, expecting and encountering adversity as the enemy moves against the Christian. This confidence only comes from humility in the seeking of God's will and guidance.

Please pray for us and seek God's will with us as we follow Him into the missionfield of American Education. Your comments on this site, in email, mail or in person are more than welcome.

Week 2

This week's slower pace has been the result of something every young organization in the US must face: paperwork. Dad wrote the Statement of Faith yesterday and we have emailed it to the board for their approval and now we are working on Mission Statement, Bylaws and 501 C 3 application. We also had to recuperate from our emotionally charged week end last week.

While paperwork is being filled out we are also planning classes for the fall: writing syllabi, looking at textbooks, etc. Please continue praying for guidance and providence as we go ahead with the vision God has given us.

Day 8- Recap

We came back from the auction rather emotionally worn down and I did not get to post until today. We left for the auction, excited that God was going to do a miracle, and 7 miles outside of Burley, Weston's car stopped working. The cap on the radiator was loose and caused the engine to overheat and it continued overheating. We sat on the side of the interstate for more than an hour as my mom took the van full of two small children, their mom, and two older teenagers who were going along to see the campus. My mom left the people from the van in a park near the Snake River and came and picked us up. We started heading up toward Albion, but by this time the auction had been going for half an hour and we were about ready to quit.

Around this time a friend, Mark, called and told us that he was at the auction and they had not started selling the campus yet, but had been auctioning some blankets and stuff. Someone commented that we could at least go and see what happens. I kept hoping for some miracle that would bring us the college, but each time the phone rang, it was Mark with news on the bidding.

Now they were up to 365,000 dollars and had taken a break. As we were driving onto the campus, I felt in my heart that this whole week had been in vain and that God had completely abandoned me. The next hour as the bidding went on, I was struggling with the fact that I trusted in God, but He seemed to have abandoned us. I kept trying to hope that God could raise up this college, but it seemed impossible. I sometimes forget that the God of the loaves and fishes is also the God who made relationships.

All of us left before the bidding had ended, except my brother-in-law. He stayed to see how it was going to end and to try and talk to the people who won (see: relationships). It just so happened that the winning bidders made it quite easy for Weston to talk to them and they showed interest in working with a college.

While Weston was staying to see how things were turning out I was dropped off at a mall with a friend because our ride down did not have time to drop us off at home. Though sad, the intensity of depression and feeling abandoned by God had dropped off and I knew that God was faithful, and that we would continue working on the college, whatever happened.

To Conclude:
We have started talking with the winners of the auction about possibilities of still doing a college on Albion Normal School Campus. We are working on an Academic Calendar as well as Statements of Faith, Mission, Vision etc. We are preparing some classes for this fall that will be taught at a satellite campus either in Jerome or Twin Falls and we are looking at the process of accreditation, as well as continuing paperwork (Bylaws, 501(c)(3) application)

Day 8: Morning

We are eating breakfast, getting ready to go to the campus. Tours start at 11, bidding starts at 1. We do not have the money, but know that we must go to this auction and see it through to the end. I know that Albion Normal School is the best means for this college to grow roots. We need this campus, so I will not stop hoping in God my saviour.

Day 7

Although we have many doubts as to where exactly God is leading the college, we are praying and preparing to go to the auction of Albion State Normal School. I have no idea how much money we have, but I know that God is with us. 9 of us have gathered here in the war room and been praying for 2 hours, I am going to ask some friends over and continue praying through the night. This college is God's, we have given it to Him tonight and I pray that we will continue to give this college to Him throughout its infancy into adulthood and beyond. Emmanuel, show yourself strong and gracious in the founding of this college.
